Gijón Sound Festival is an urban-format indie music festival: rather than one big site, it spreads gigs across clubs, bars, theatres and squares in central Gijón, with a special focus on the Cimavilla old quarter. It is a great way to discover new bands and get a feel for the city’s nightlife at the same time.
What it is
A festival of pop, rock, indie and other alternative styles, with mainly Spanish artists and some international names. According to its official website, it is organised by Divertia Gijón, the city’s municipal events company, and produced by Mestizo Producciones. The idea is to fill the old town and centre with music for several days, combining ticketed gigs with free street performances.
Is it still running?
The official website was presenting the 2026 edition when we reviewed this page in October 2026. As of today there has been no public announcement of a 2027 edition, so we cannot confirm whether it will go ahead or when. When and where
- When: in recent editions, spring (April), over a long weekend. The 2027 dates are pending.
- Where: several venues in central Gijón and Cimavilla. As an urban festival, the venues change from year to year.
What to expect
- Gigs in small venues, intimate and with good sound.
- Free performances in squares and open spaces, depending on the programme.
- A gig-hopping vibe: you walk from one stage to the next through the centre.
- Cimavilla at its best, with cider bars and pubs in full swing.
Tips
- Do it on foot: venues tend to be close together. If you arrive by car, leave it outside the centre – see parking in Gijón and getting around Gijón.
- Pack a rain jacket: spring weather in Gijón is changeable.
- Combine it with other spring festivals: L.E.V. Festival, devoted to electronic music and audiovisual art, is usually held in late April or early May.
- Accommodation: if it coincides with Easter or a bank holiday, book ahead – see where to stay.
