This holiday has been declared <strong>festival of regional tourist interest<\/strong> and covers the period from Thursday of <a href=\"https:\/\/descubregijon.com\/en\/les-comadres\/\">comadres<\/a> until the <strong>Tuesday of Carnival<\/strong> with the <strong>Burial of the Sardine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>In Asturias, the Carnival period is known as <strong>Anthroxu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The carnival began to be celebrated in the streets of the city as a way to counteract the sadness and melancholy of winter and over the years, this celebration has evolved and has become one of the most popular carnivals in Spain, with a large number of visitors who flock to the city to participate in the festivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/descubregijon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/antroxu-gijon.jpg\" alt=\"antroxu gij\u00f3n\" class=\"wp-image-1158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/descubregijon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/antroxu-gijon.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/descubregijon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/antroxu-gijon-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/descubregijon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/antroxu-gijon-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the traditional parade through the streets of the city, the carnival offers a wide variety of activities for all tastes and ages. For example, costume contests for children and adults are organized, in which participants can show their creativity and originality, there are also concerts, magic shows, theater performances and film screenings for those who seek a more cultural experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Burial of the Sardine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The carnivals culminate with the Burial of the Sardine, an event that symbolizes the end of Carnival and the beginning of Lent.
